Our mission at the SL Hockey League is to provide you with
a safe and enjoyable league where you can improve your hockey skills and
experience healthy competition among friends. Players engaging in actions
deemed as injurious will be dealt with severely and will be subject to expulsion.
Duration of game
As soon as the ice has been
flooded and the rink attendants are off the ice, a three (3) minute warm up
will commence. This will be followed by a twenty-five (23) minute, straight
time first period, subsequently followed by a twenty (20) minute, straight time
second period. The last two minute of the second period shall be stop-time if
the goal difference is two or less. No time outs are allowed during game.
Equipment
All players will wear C.S.A. approved helmets with proper chinstraps (no laces tolerated). Goalkeepers will also wear a CHA facemask.
Penalties
Minor penalties shall be for a duration of three (3) minutes. Major penalties shall be for a duration of seven (7) minutes. Should the goalkeeper sustain a penalty or injury that would cause him to be removed from the game, a player may be given the privileges of a goalkeeper as per Canadian Hockey Association (CHA) rules. Should there not be a goalkeeper ready to play at the game-starting whistle, the team will have a 10 minutes grace. The team shall lose by default if a goaltender is not present after the 10 minute grace. The game may not start the game without a goalie. Any malicious intent to injure a player or a referee will result in expulsion from the game. The incident will also be reported to the President of the League who may take further disciplinary action. Coincidental minor penalties shall cancel each other out.
Changes on the fly
Teams are required to change on the fly except when a goal or a penalty is assessed.
Sticks down
If a player makes contact with the puck with his stick over the height of his shoulders, the play will be whistled down and an automatic 3 minute minor penalty will be assessed.
Slaps shot allowed
Slap shots are permitted. But please use some common sense.
Crease rule
The play will be whistle down if a player has two feet in the crease while his team has possession of the puck. The face off will take place outside the offensive zone.
No body checking
No body checking is allowed. A minor, major or match penalty will be assessed for such an infraction at the discretion of the official.
Three penalties
Any player receiving three penalties during a game will be ejected from that particular game.
No fighting
Any players involved in an altercation on the ice, in the hallways or anywhere else on the premises will be suspended or expelled from the league. Any player who is assessed a fighting major during a game will also be expelled from the league.
Racial comments
Racial comments to other players or officials may result in expulsion from the league.
Respect officials
Any player who hits or pushes a referee, timekeeper or league official will be expelled from the league. On ice officials will have final ruling on all calls.
Refunds
League fees will not be refunded to players or teams once the season starts. Suspended or expelled player will not be refunded any league fees.
The League President will have final ruling on any occurrence not outlined in these rules.
He will also take necessary actions to ensure the league remains as safe and as enjoyable as possible.
